Syntropy at the Feral Salon

Syntropy:

Comprehending a Temporally... Complex Universe

January 15, 2026

The Feral Salon is a collaboration between the Feral Ecologies Lab and Salon Ruigoord in Amsterdam, established to provide intimate dialogues with the most engaged and undomesticated philosophers following the pulse of our zeitgeist of the great rewilding.

On January 15th, 2026 Jeff Dunne is proud to be presenting at the second installment of this new series. He will be speaking about the nature of syntropy, the evidence supporting it, and how we might change our worldview to accommodate a universe in which time is not the one-way river we have been led to believe.

Popular scientific dogma makes strong assertions about the nature of time, most notably that things evolve into the future solely as the result of what has happened in the past. It’s a consequence of the second law of thermodynamics, after all; entropy always increases, and systems will go towards states of greater disorder. To feel comfortable with this perspective, however, a surprising amount of evidence must be ignored. Life, for example, is a case where simple things like amoebae defy entropy to eventually become organisms so complex, so organized, that they can write presentation abstracts. Suggestions regarding precognitive insights—such as those that might explain why the World Trade Center had substantially reduced occupancy on September 11, 2001—are dismissed as anecdote, just as precognitive dreams are described as nothing more than chance (surely if enough monkeys have enough dreams, some of those dreams are bound to come true exactly as was dreamt, right?) As for the measurements in which a physiological response to certain stimuli begins prior to the existence of those stimuli… well, we just don’t talk about that.

But what if the same equations of physics that predict entropy had a second solution? What if that solution resulted in the propagation of energy and information flowing *backward* in time? Lucky for us, that is exactly the case. Syntropy, the complementary principle to entropy, was originally dismissed as being ‘merely a mathematical artifact’ resulting from taking the square root of a negative number, but we have seen some amazing technologies build on the consequences of imaginary numbers and the evidence for syntropy’s existence is simply too overwhelming to justify continued denial.

Knowing the Knower

Knowing the Knower

The Physics of Consciousness and the Hidden Nature of Reality

In this conversation, episode 5 of the Galileo Commission‘s “Know Thyself” podcast, Dr. Jeffrey Dunne and Athena Potari explore how self-inquiry stands as the foundation of authentic science — how understanding the knower becomes essential to understanding the known.

Synchronicity, Self Awareness, and the Collective Future

Synchronicity, Self Awareness, and the Collective Future

ICRL’s Jeff Dunne returns to the Connecting with Coincidence podcast in episode # 425 to talk with Dr. Bernard Beitman about Synchronicity, Self Awareness, and the Collective Future (and not a small number of other fascinating topics to boot).

2026 Consciousness Dialogues Retreat Preregistration

2026 Consciousness Dialogues Retreat Preregistration

Our past two Consciousness Dialogues Retreats in 2024 and 2025 were incredible successes, and it is time to start planning for 2026! We invite you to use the below form to preregister in order to express your interest and provide input regarding location and time of year.

There are two options: Basic preregistration is free and will allow you to be part of the discussion as to where and when, as well as be first to register. If you are ready to commit, however, a $200 down payment will additionally provide you both ‘front of the line’ priority when registering for your next retreat (whether that is in 2026 or later), and a 15% discount off the cost of the retreat.  Of course, that $200 also counts towards the registration cost, and both the discount and downpayment will be valid for the future Consciousness Dialogue Retreat of your choosing should the 2026 event not work with your schedule.

Note: We use a service called Zeffy to handle preregistrations, which has the advantage of not charging any fees but the disadvantage that they default to including a donation to Zeffy at the same time should you choose the Pre-Purchase Discount option. That is not necessary and can be easily excluded or adjusted by simply selecting ‘Other’ in that section.

Science and Consciousness 2025 – Wyrd People

ICRL Presenting at

Science and Consciousness 2025:
Wyrd People

During the week of October 20, 2025, Dr. Jeff Dunne will be presenting at the annual Science and Consciousness conference held in Skipton, UK at the beautiful Broughton Estate.  His plenary talk, entitled “Interwoven Threads: We Are the Story“, will explore our relationship with the universe and each other as interconnected creatures of narrative, examining how consciousness produces meaning and the role that plays in our life experiences. In addition, Jeff will be coordinating some parallel sessions as well – one focused on collaboration in the field of consciousness research and shifting societal norms, and the other that is an experiential workshop.

Science, Art, and the Sacred at Pari

Jeff Dunne Presents at Pari's Science, Art, and the Sacred

During the 2025 Science, Art, and the Sacred Series hosted by the Pari Center in Tuscany, Italy, Dr. Dunne will present a talk entitled “Syntropy:  A Scientific Expression of Purpose in Life and Beyond Death“.  For more information, and to reserve your spot for attendance Sept 2-9, see Pari’s website.

Abstract

The idea that consciousness is primary is becoming an increasingly prominent topic of conversation in ever-broadening circles.  As this invites us to question the very nature of reality, a great deal of evidence that time and space are not objective absolutes is being examined with a more open mind.  One example of this is the principle of syntropy (predicted by the same laws of physics that lead to entropy) that describes how energy and information can flow from the future to the present, and for which a large body of scientific evidence has been collected.

The implications of syntropy are profound, as they describe a purposeful universe in which all things are intrinsically interconnected.  Just as importantly, the complementarity between syntropy and entropy suggests that we must take a new look at how we understand time and space, and recognize the very strong possibility that these concepts are more likely cognitive tools rather than objective aspects of a universe independent of the consciousnesses that experience it.

This talk will provide a short background on the concept of syntropy and explore not only the above-described implications, but what they mean for understanding life and death in the context of a reality where time is a tool of narrative.

Presentations and Workshops at the FoC

Presentations and Workshops at the FoC

During the 2025 Festival of Consciousness in Barcelona, ICRL’s president, Jeff Dunne, ran two activities. The first was a talk in which he presented the scientific evidence supporting the idea that looking at life as a form of narrative may be more than a loose metaphor, and perhaps not even a metaphor at all!

Following his talk, Jeff ran a workshop entitled “Being Not Me” in which he used art and meditation to guide a group of participants in experiencing alternate consciousnesses.  The one-hour session resulted in some incredible experiences and insights for the participants.

Launch of the FHE Art Installation

Launch of the FHE Art Installation

Understanding the nature of consciousness is intrinsically connected to the processes of self-discovery and the ability to communicate such insights to others… even (and perhaps even most importantly) when those insights defy words. In such circumstances, art is unquestionably our best language for such purposes.

In 2025, ICRL partnered with the Scientific and Medical Network’s Galileo Commission to create an enduring art installation that aims to capture different facets of what it means to be human. More than simply a collection of artworks, however, the FHE installation invites those who view the art, the experiencers, to contribute to the installation by sharing their own insights and reactions.  In this way we aim to create a continually evolving project with new artwork and new interpretations.
