Introduction:
Perhaps one of the most unfortunate dysfunctions of modern society is the emphasis placed on insisting what we are not, on what we cannot do or experience. Many people find themselves constrained so tightly by such insistences that they endure a lifetime of self-denial, unable to recognize the artificial boundaries imposed upon them.
In actuality, we have far greater depth and potential than most people realize, greater capacity for both perception of, and influence upon, the world around us. This is far from ‘new thinking’, for awareness of such capacities has been expressed by essentially every ancient tradition. Consequently, it is not at all surprising that there is an overwhelming body of evidence showing that we have only just begun to explore the extents of who and what we are.
A Call to Expression:
We invite you to explore the nature of the human and the human experience, and to manifest a representation of one or more aspects of that exploration in artistic form. Whether you choose a traditional medium for expression such as sculpture, performance, poetry, visual arts, theatre, etc. or something never seen before, the only constraint is that your art be focused on speaking at an emotional level.
Each submission should also be accompanied by a brief written description, on the order of 1-3 paragraphs. This prose will speak in the language of 'intellect', expressing what facet(s) of the human or human experience the artist sought to express with their piece.
The Installation:
Each submitted piece of artwork will be presented to a set of experiencers who will write additional short descriptions of their impressions from the art. Each piece of art with its associated descriptions (from the artist and the experiencers) will represent one element of an overall, multifaceted art installation highlighting the depth and beauty of what humanity has to offer.
This installation will be revealed in physical space at the Annual Gathering of the Scientific and Medical Network, held outside of London over the last weekend of June, as well as shared online. Viewers of the installation will themselves be invited to share their experiences of the art, creating a continually evolving expression of who and what we are, and documenting the capacity for such self-awareness to transform our lives on multiple levels.
And there will be cake and ice cream. And balloons. And a lot of laughter. And while this last paragraph was not actually intended to be included in the official writeup, it has nonetheless remained, for we must always remember that anything lacking the elements of joy and play are, simply put, lacking.
Please register your initial interest with Jeff Dunne by April 1, with entries submitted by May 10 (specifics of delivery to be arranged based on the art itself).
