Here's something you probably didn't know. I mean, sure you know it now because you read the title of this section, and the graphic over there is probably a bit of a giveaway too. And that hint into the subject line of the newsletter... but let's just forget that for a moment. Here's something you probably didn't know: ICRL just turned 30! 

If you have a historian kind of mind, those three decades mean that ICRL has now been doing its thing longer than the PEAR lab operated (1979-2007), and for those of us who have been around "the biz" for the last 47 years, that's kind of mind-blowing.

You might ask yourself what we're going to do to celebrate. Well, we've got several things in mind.  A party? Of course, but there are more lasting things too. You can learn about all of them in more detail at the next ICRL Meetup this coming Saturday, but let me share here a few that are particularly PEAR-relevant, and all in the spirit of renewal.

First, we're in the midst of moving the original PEAR REG experiments online, which means that a bit later this year you will be able to do those experiments just as if you were in the PEAR lab itself. Except you don't need to be in Princeton, and you won't need someone there to let you into a lab so you can do them whenever you want. And we've got some cool new interfaces, and some new data analysis techniques. So if you've been itching to see those cumulative distribution plots dancing their jigs again (or for the first time for many folks)—albeit updated with new capabilities that today's compute power provides—know that it's on its way.

Another cool research project that will be starting up again is VeggieREG. "Again?" Yes, many years ago a small project was undertaken that looked at the ability of plants to influence random processes, and it perhaps would not surprise you to know the results suggested that they're pretty damn good at it. These new experiments will be more extensive, and will hopefully provide greater insights into how we relate to the world around us (which, you may have noticed, contains an awful lot of plants).

And the last bit of renewal news for now is that we are going to be restoring several pieces of PEAR equipment, such as the Fountain, the Pendulum, and even breathing new life into some of the acoustics apparatus (which I desperately want to spell "apparati", except that's wrong). We won't use them to perform research anytime soon, but they will function once more, and hopefully with a level of artistic splendor that will take them to a new level for people learning about PEAR.
